Rygel Open-Source Media Server Gets Hack to Support AVI Playback on Philips TVs

The open-source Rygel DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) media server software has been updated earlier, May 23, 2016, to stable version 0.30.3 and development build 0.31.1.

Rygel 0.30.3 is the third maintenance release in the stable 0.30.x series of the software, which is being distributed as part of the GNOME Stack, bringing users a few hacks and fixes to make their media streaming experience richer.

First of all, there’s now a new hack that lets users play video files in the AVI format on their Philips TVs. Both versions include the new hack for Philips TVs, along with support for starting Rygel on user systemd.

Then, it looks like the MediaExport features have received improvements to the artist view on the XBox 360 gaming console, also implemented in both Rygel 0.30.3 and 0.31.1 versions released earlier.
