Stanislav Hoferek, the developer of the Lubuntu-based Greenie Linux distribution designed to run on older PCs from ten years ago, was proud to announce the release of Greenie 16.04, which ships in two editions: Desktop and Lite.

Based on the Lubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenia Xerus) operating system, Greenie 16.04 inherits all of its internal, including the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel, as well as the lightweight LXDE desktop environment. Both Desktop and Lite versions of Greenie 16.04 come with support for Slovak and Czech languages and many useful tools.

The OS includes programs for burning ISO files, a calculator for MD5 checksums, a utility for creating Live USB disks, tools for basic PC diagnostics and backups, as well as more complex applications like the LibreOffice office suite, GIMP image editor, and Wine for running all sorts of Windows apps and games.
