A new version of Linux Mint is now available for download, and the release comes with a long list of improvements, as well as with extended support until 2023.
Linux Mint 19.1 “Tessa” Xfce Edition is based on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS (Bionic Beaver) and runs on the Cinnamon 4.0 desktop environment.
The list of changes is obviously huge given this is a major release, and it includes a new look for the Software Sources tool with a Xapp sidebar and a header bar, separated Language Settings and Input Methods, as well as lots of refinements for Xapp apps.
For example, Xreader boasts a new look for the document viewer, while text editor Xed finally made the switch to libpeas, python3, and the MESON build system.
Linux Mint 19.1 comes with linux-firmware 1.173.2 and the Linux kernel 4.15.0-20 and includes changes that are supposed to make signing in to the desktop more user-friendly. For instance, sudo now displays asterisks when you type the passwords, while the welcome scre… (read more)
