AMDGPU-PRO Driver 16.30 Officially Released with Support for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Today, June 29, 2016, AMD released the final version of the AMDGPU-Pro 16.30 graphics driver for GNU/Linux operating systems, bringing support for new technologies like the Vulkan API.

While AMD says that the drive is available for Linux kernel-based operating systems, from the release notes we can see that only Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) is supported at this time. However, that shouldn’t stop maintainer of other distributions to incorporate the new AMDGPU-PRO drive on their systems.

We already had a quick chat with Ikey Doherty, just a few minutes ago, and he told us that the AMDGPU-PRO 16.30 graphics drive should be available soon in the Solus operating system. Also, please note that this driver from AMD is compatible only with 64-bit OSes and newer graphics cards like AMD Radeon RX 480 and the R9 series.
